D-Link DSL-604+ Crashes after a short time in my small network with 3 PCs
I have bought a Wireless ADSL Router, DSL-604+, and plugged and played! Everything was doing well as long as I had only one laptop wired to it. Nothing was strange or bad about its performance. Then I added two more PCs using two D-link Air Wireless USB adaptor, DWL-122. I configured those two PCs perfectly with DNS and IP addresses configured to be obtained automatically.
Unfortunately a new kind of problem emerged out of the box! When I was connected and the other PCs were not connected, everything was good, but as soon as those two PCs were trying to connect at the same time, the router would freeze and stopped working after a few minutes. Hopefully, I know how to configure a real network for 100 PCs, and routers, as well! But my every sincere efforts to debug this problem frustrated by failure, very soon!
After a deep investigation, I discovered that the router fails to assign the needed IP addresses to the newly connected wireless clients, when they asked for a new IP address, frequently. You know why? Those two wireless adaptors frequently have been rebooted, on and off, for some reasons.
What should I do? The first guess is finding the latest driver for the router. OK! lets go. 1-2-3 ... wow! there is nothing I can do to find an up2dated driver anywhere. Neither dlink.com nor did any other link or source help. But, I still had hope.
Going to http://192.168.0.1/ again!
I went back to the router to have a closer look at its embedded utility (firmware). Bingo! There is a link to a site for the driver update. When I went where the link referred to, I saw a page for a few more device drivers updates that one of them was mine. Here is the final link:
http://support.dlink.ca/telus/drivers/FC0610b3t25.xDSL
[update] this one is the latest though http://support.dlink.ca/telus/drivers/FC0610b3t29.xDSL
At this moment, I could update my router firmware that I'd downloaded and could use a browse-button provided inside the router firmware homepage to lead it to a place where the up2dated package is placed (my desktop.)
Finally, when I conformed a few questions about if I really want to update the firmware, and some others, it got updated pretty well, without any problem.
Now, I'm running my network, swimmingly!
